My issue with manifestation culture as a counsellor
I’ve been there myself, for years I was influenced into the manifestation culture, setting intentions, vision boards, etc, you name it!
At first manifestation felt exciting until i realised it was MY distraction.
For a little while it felt exciting, until i realised that (for me) manifestation culture and the law of attraction was in actual fact just a distraction!A distraction from the deep inner work that i was avoiding, but the only thing that was actually going to help me to let go of my past trauma.
I go more into detail about what I call “the law of distraction” and why, in the Unpack book series and I explain how this keeps us stuck and why it isn’t the answer to trauma
The reality; manifestation may be fun, but it cannot heal trauma
As time passed, it become obvious that I was just wasting my time, my past trauma wasn’t going to disappear by visualizing my future. I had to Unpack my past first, I had to do what was uncomfortable in order to heal and move forward. Therapy showed me that the REAL reason we continue to suffer isn’t because we arnt “aligned” enough its because we are carrying old internal wounds. We cant “manifest” our way out of trauma, heartbreak or grief.
Im not against manifestation culture or the LOA
Im really not against manifestation principles, although, my issue is that for people who are vulnerable (for example, people who have mental health conditions and/or past trauma) manifestation culture may actually do more harm than good, if you resonate please seek qualified support.
If like me, you’ve also been let down by manifestation culture I would love to support you, feel free to book a consultation call with me, to see if i’m the right therapist to support you.
