More Than a Therapist: A Mum, A Human, A Real Person

I’ve always been fascinated by how the mind works, what drives us, how we cope, and how we heal.

But it wasn’t until I became a single mum to a child with special educational needs and medical conditions that I truly understood how vital it is for us, especially as mothers, to take care of our own wellbeing.

We love our children, but we often forget that looking after ourselves isn’t selfish — it’s essential. When we’re supported, resourced, and cared for, we show up more fully, more patiently, and more powerfully — not just for our children, but for ourselves.

I’ve Sat in Your Chair, Too

I’ve had counselling myself, and I’ll be honest; the experiences were mixed. Therapy isn’t a magic fix, and it’s definitely not one-size-fits-all. Not every therapist will be your cup of tea — and that’s completely okay.

That’s why I offer a free consultation before we begin working together. You deserve the chance to get a feel for how I work to see whether it feels like the right fit. I’m also honest about my own limits; if I genuinely feel I’m not the right person to support you, I’ll always signpost you to someone who might be. Therapy is a two-way relationship built on trust, and that starts with clarity. That’s why I’m upfront from the start — about the process, the contract, your rights, and your data. No fluff. Just honesty.

Therapists Are Just as Human

I’ve been where you are. I know how vulnerable it can feel to open up. I also know that the therapeutic relationship, feeling seen, heard, and safe, is the foundation for healing. Without that connection, therapy can feel like just another appointment. But with it, real change happens.

And I’m not some perfectly put-together figure sitting behind a clipboard. I’m human, just like you.

I’m a mum. A single mum. I juggle, I forget things, I worry, I hope, I mess up — like the time I sent my son to school in a full Spider-Man costume… on the wrong day. And not just any day — it was the day the school went out on a trip. Everyone saw him.

You know those days when you just don’t want to be seen, and life makes sure everyone sees you? Yeah, it was one of those days. I felt stupid. I panicked, thinking, What have I done? 🤦‍♀️ But my son? He thought it was amazing. He didn’t just forgive me — he actually loved it! He still reminds me how cool he looked, and how special that day felt.

That moment taught me something: we’re often so hard on ourselves, but our kids don’t see failure, they see love, effort, and fun.

We ALL make mistakes, and that’s okay. Sometimes, those messy moments become the memories that matter most.

My Background

I hold a degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Health Psychology. My therapeutic approach is rooted in psychodynamic theory — exploring how our past experiences shape our present, and helping you make sense of what’s going on beneath the surface.

I also have a passion for behavioural science and how small, evidence-based shifts in our thinking and routines can support both mind and body.

But more than qualifications, I bring lived experience, raising a child with additional needs, navigating the healthcare system, balancing single parenthood and self-care. That real-life lens shapes everything I do.

A Message for Other Mums (And Anyone Feeling Overwhelmed)

Being a mum is not easy. The idea that stay-at-home mums are somehow “lazy” couldn’t be further from the truth. Parenting is relentless. You don’t clock off. You don’t get a break. You give and give and give — and yet many of us feel guilty for saying, I need help too.

We see perfect pictures online and assume we’re the only ones struggling — but we’re not. You’re not.

I love being a mum. But I also know that motherhood isn't easy. And needing support doesn’t make you weak — it makes you wise.

If You’re Thinking About Therapy…

Therapy only works when you feel ready. It’s a commitment — to yourself, your growth, your healing. That’s why it’s so important to find someone you feel comfortable with.

No pressure. No rush. If you’d like to talk things through, I’m happy to offer a free consultation — over the phone or in my therapy room — so you can get a sense of whether I’m the right person for you.

You don’t have to do it all alone.
I’m here — human to human — ready to walk alongside you.
