I was having a conversation recently with someone about something.
They shared their opinion on a topic, explained their reasoning, and opened up about their personal experience that shaped their views. It made total sense, and it worked for them.
But I had a completely different take.
Why? Because my experience was the opposite. My outcome was different, and so naturally, my opinion was too.
So, who’s right?
The truth is: we both are.
And at the same time… maybe neither of us.
What that moment reminded me of is something that’s so important in the world of mental health: everyone’s experience is different. There’s no universal “right” or “wrong” when it comes to personal journeys.
This is exactly why qualified, professional support is so important.
As therapists, we’re trained to leave our own opinions and experiences outside the therapy room. We don’t assume your story should match ours. Instead, we step into your journey, with empathy and expertise.
We also have regular supervision to make sure we’re staying grounded, ethical, and focused on your healing, not our biases.
In a world full of strong opinions and personal stories, it’s easy to feel confused about what’s “right.” But mental health isn’t about choosing sides. It’s about choosing you.
